Jeremie Frimpong has been a hot topic in the world of football for some time now, with Liverpool being one of the most-linked teams to acquire his services.

The defender has played for the likes of Manchester City and Celtic throughout his career, but at the moment, he finds himself as one of the most important players in Xabi Alonso’s system.

A plethora of European clubs have been linked with acquiring his services due to the £29.5m release clause within his current contract at Bayer Leverkusen.

However, with Trent Alexander-Arnold now leaving Anfield, Arne Slot needs to source a replacement for his back four, or at least someone to challenge Conor Bradley.

Liverpool fans react as Frimpong edges closer to Anfield switch

Since the news of Alexander-Arnold’s exit was shared with fans, murmurs of Slot making a move for Frimpong have been rife.

The defender has been in some impressive form over the last couple of seasons, and as per a report from the Daily Mail, Frimpong’s willingness to join the Reds could start to get things into motion rather quickly.

One fan wrote, “What a Steele,” while another wrote, “Frimpong’s pace would cook Premier League defences.”

“Here we go,” one fan wrote. While another added: “Steele Bomba.”

This fan also seemed rather happy with the latest news and stated, “Okayy.”

Why Jeremie Frimpong is exactly what Liverpool needs

There’s no denying that it’ll be hard for another player to replicate what Alexander-Arnold has done at Liverpool over the past couple of seasons.

The defender has been key in many of the Reds’ goals, with his assist for Divock Origi against Barcelona in the 2019/20 Champions League semi-final arguably being the best of the lot.

However, as Frimpong has managed to contribute to 43 goals over the past couple of seasons, he certainly has the capability to put up the numbers Alexander-Arnold has.

Nothing is yet set in stone, of course, but at the moment, everything seems to be falling in place for the Netherlands international to make the move.

Which, on paper, seems to be a move that makes total sense for each of the involved parties.
