Liverpool are advancing their pursuit of Southampton’s Romeo Lavia amid claims they are backing away from Ryan Gravenberch.

Romeo Lavia is emerging as Liverpool’s top midfield target with a deal seemingly advancing.

That is according to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who claims that Liverpool will ‘focus their energies’ on signing Lavia.

It’s stated that talks between Liverpool and Lavia’s representatives are advancing well.

Tavolieri claims that the ‘green light’ is close with this deal seemingly moving forward very quickly.

Liverpool ideally want to have Lavia snapped up by the time they start their summer training camp.

Jurgen Klopp has noted that Liverpool start pre-season training at Melwood on July 8th, with some players coming back on July 11th.

Klopp then stated that Liverpool would be heading to Germany ‘three or four days’ later, with friendlies against Karlsruher and Greuther Furth later this month.

That doesn’t give Liverpool bags of time to sign Lavia, but there is real hope amid claims from TalkSPORT that Liverpool have overtaken Chelsea in the race to strike a £50million deal.

Liverpool seem to be focusing on Romeo Lavia over Ryan Gravenberch

This comes after Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Liverpool are ‘definitely out of the race’ to sign Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch.

Plettenberg claimed that Liverpool did initiate talks with Gravenberch’s representatives and Bayern.

However, Liverpool are thought to be focusing on Lavia instead as they seek another midfield addition.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have already joined Liverpool this summer.

Both players are fairly forward-thinking and the emphasis now is on adding a holding midfield player to compete with Fabinho.

Gravenberch doesn’t really fit that mould as he prefers to play a box-to-box role.

Lavia makes much more sense from that perspective and it looks like the Reds are going all in for the Belgian, leaving Gravenberch’s future at Bayern unclear.
