What a season Roberto Firmino is having at Liverpool at the moment.

Last time around, the 30-year-old attacker only managed 11 goals in 35 appearances for the Reds across all competitions.

But based on current form, the Liverpool number nine is going to smash that record.

Firmino scored twice on Wednesday again as Jurgen Klopp’s side hammered Rangers 7-1 in the Champions League.

In doing so, the Brazil international has now managed eight goals in 12 games for Liverpool this season [Transfermarkt] and what an insane decision it would’ve been to swap him for Leandro Paredes this past summer.

That’s what the talk was about, with Calciomercato reporting – as covered by HITC Sport – that Firmino was offered to Paris Saint-Germain in return for the Argentina midfielder.

In the end, Paredes joined Juventus and Firmino obviously stayed at Liverpool, thankfully.

Not only is the Brendan Rodgers signing enjoying a second wind at Anfield, but Paredes has only started three Serie A outings for the Italian outfit thus far, illustrating that he hasn’t enjoyed an easy transition.

And if he is struggling in Italian football, suffice to say that would’ve been additionaly true in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool did really want to swap Firmino for Paredes, but that’s certainly what was reported and thankfully for the Reds, Jurgen Klopp and the forward himself, it didn’t materialise.
