Liverpool have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Newcastle United’s Brazilian sensation Bruno Guimaraes, but the Reds may boast a trump card to elbow Graham Potter aside – in the form of another midfielder; Naby Keita.
Guimaraes, 24, has been excellent for Newcastle. Not just because of his seven goals, and three assists, in 29 Toon matches. But because of his breathtaking passing, his technical abilities and his ability to connect with the supporters.
A point proven by his quick ability to learn English, and doing interviews already. That, and playing just hours after the birth of his son Matteo against Tottenham on Sunday. He is the beating heart of a quickly-improving Newcastle side.
Goal Brasil say Chelsea have begun talks with his representatives to find out how much Newcastle would request for his transfer. TNT claim Liverpool have joined the race. Newcastle will not want to sell their midfield superstar.
However, if Liverpool are serious about landing Guimaraes and the Brazilian is tempted by a move, then the Reds could have a trump card up their sleeve. It comes in the form of Keita – who is out of contract come the end of the season.

Liverpool in race to sign Guimaraes: Reds boast trump card in Keita
Firstly, what a signing Guimaraes would be for Liverpool. A much-needed addition at Anfield. They need a bit of energy in midfield, a younger player but one with the quality of Thiago, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. What a signing.
Newcastle will be very, very keen to keep Guimaraes. They stand a very good chance of doing so, with Guimaraes contracted on Tyneside until June 2026. But Newcastle are interested in Liverpool’s Keita, according to Milan Live.
So, if Newcastle do have to consider selling Guimaraes and Liverpool are interested in January, the Reds will have a trump card to push Chelsea aside – in the form of Keita. It would at least ease the loss of Guimaraes in Newcastle.
