Kevin De Bruyne has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:41pm, January 15, 2022) that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could still catch Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table this season.

Manchester City midfielder De Bruyne made the comments about Liverpool after his side won against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

It was the Belgium international midfielder who scored the only goal of the match at the Etihad Stadium.

Defending champions City are now at the top of the Premier League table with 56 points from 22 matches.

Chelsea are second with 43 points from 22 games, while Liverpool are third with 42 points from 20 games.

De Bruyne said: “We know the gap is big for the moment, but Liverpool are not far if they win their games. So game on.”

Could Liverpool catch Manchester City?

In our view, there is still a chance that Liverpool could catch Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table this season.

If the Reds win their two games in hand, then they will be eight points behind Pep Guardiola’s side.

That is still a considerable gap, but it can be overturned.

City have lost twice in the Premier League this season.

While it shows just how good and strong the Citizens are, it also gives hopes to Liverpool that Guardiola’s side can still drop points.

The title is now City’s to lose, but Liverpool should not give up hope just yet.
