According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s contract talks with Fabinho are progressing well, and he’s happy to put pen to paper on a new deal.

The Italian journalist revealed the news earlier today, and also confirmed the arrival of Ibrahima Konaté from RB Leipzig before Liverpool officially announced it.

It comes after Romano also said that Alisson Becker is keen to sign a new contract at Anfield.

Now, this is absolutely fantastic news for Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp.

Fabinho is the glue that holds Liverpool’s side together, and their rise since his arrival from AS Monaco in 2018 has been significant.

Before the 12-cap Brazil international arrived in a deal worth £43.7 million, the Reds hadn’t won a single trophy under Klopp.

Liverpool had suffered in the League Cup final against Manchester City, then again in the Europa League final against Sevilla, before losing the 2018 Champions League final too.

However, since Fabinho turned up, the midfield lynchpin has helped Liverpool win the Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

It’s vital that Liverpool get Fabinho’s deal done now

If Liverpool waited until next summer to sort the 27-year-old’s contract out, they’d be leaving themselves in a dangerous position.

Fabinho’s current terms expire in June 2023 (Transfermarkt).

In that respect, Liverpool would either have to sell him, or risk losing him for nothing if the summer of 2022 came around and negotiations began to prove difficult.

It would also mean Klopp and Michael Edwards have to replace a player who’s made 122 appearances for the club, and does a pivotal job in the midfield.

Fabinho can also operate at centre-back and at right-back – he’s arguably the most important player in Klopp’s squad, in some respects.

Hopefully, Fabinho will put pen to paper very soon.
