Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Alisson is keen to sign a new contract at Liverpool.
The Brazilian goalkeeper has just had a memorable season, for glorious and tragic reasons.
The former Roma stopper tragically lost his father earlier this calendar year.
But earlier in the month, Alisson scored a last-minute winner as Liverpool won 2-1 away to West Brom in what turned out to be a massive three points and a victory that ultimately helped Jurgen Klopp’s side qualify for the Champions League.
The 28-year-old, who cost Liverpool £66 million in the summer of 2018, has arguably been the Premier League’s finest goalkeeper since his arrival from the Italian club.
As things stand, he is contracted to the Anfield side until 2024 but the reliable Italian journalist has revealed that the player is keen to stay beyond that, hinting that there could be news over the coming weeks.
He told his Here We Go podcast: “Keep an eye on Alisson because he wants to extend his contract at Liverpool. It could be a topic in the next [few] weeks.”
Boost
This would be a massive boost for Liverpool.
The Reds are already about to lose one player for free in the form of Georginio Wijnaldum and although there’s no fear of Alisson leaving on a Bosman anytime soon, a new contract would still effectively ensure that he enjoys the best years of his career on Merseyside.
It seems crazy to think but the truth is that Alisson, at 28, can and will still get a lot better over the coming years and the idea that he wants to stay at Liverpool can’t be anything other than good news.
