Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Newcastle United like Anton Stach and Mainz’s sporting director admits the Bundesliga ace is not ‘unsellable’, speaking to Sky Germany.

Considering this is a club who identified both Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel as two of Europe’s rising young coaches, it’s fair to say Mainz have a knack for spotting diamonds in the rough.

Stach joined on the cheap from Greuther Furth during the summer of 2021. Less than two years on, it would take a bid in the region of £12 million to take the 6ft 4ins colossus away from the MEWA Arena, Stach’s imperious form reportedly catching the eye of Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham and a Liverpool side long overdue a midfield overhaul (90Min).

Mainz director Christian Heidel insists that no side has entered talks just yet. But nor did he rule out a summer sale.

“We haven’t gotten anything from the whole circus yet. No one has reported (their interest) yet,” says Heidel. “So the topic is not currently on the table.

“For Mainz 05 no player is unsellable. In such cases, you have to weigh the economic factors against the sporting. It also depends on what the player wants. And then you make a decision.”

Stach, Sky Deutschland report, is open to a change of scenery this summer. The 24-year-old hopes to earn a place in Hansi Flick’s Germany squad for next summer’s European Championships on home soil, and a life-changing switch to a Premier League powerhouse would give his chances an almighty shot in the arm.

“I’m a huge fan of Anton because he is very talented,” says Mainz team-mate Dominik Kohr. “He’s big, quick and has an incredible shot.

“I think he’s someone who can add something to our attack.”

“After injuries inhibited him, he’s a different player now,” adds Mainz’ latest much-admired head coach, Bo Svensson (DAZN). “This is the Anton we know from last season. He operates with a completely different power. A completely different self-image.”

“I think Anton is a good player and is doing a great job. Everything else belongs in Hansi’s hands.”
