Liverpool and Leeds United have hit a roadblock in their pursuit to sign Rangers youth star Rory Wilson, with the striker yet to turn down a new contract with the Scottish giants.

According to the Scottish Sun, club chiefs at Rangers are hopeful that the 16-year-old attacking sensation will sign a new deal with the Glasgow side, with interest in Wilson heating up as Liverpool and Leeds have now been joined by Manchester United and Brighton in the race for the teenager.

As per the report, Wilson has been in incredible form this season, with the Scotland youth international bagging 40 goals at youth level for Rangers this campaign, and it is this form that is attracting major interest from some of England’s biggest clubs.

The Daily Star have previously reported that Liverpool and Leeds are keen on signing the youngster, with Newcastle United and Manchester City also keeping tabs on Wilson, who is keen on departing Rangers for a move down south to England.

Indeed, with so many top clubs chasing the Scotsman, it will be interesting to see where Wilson ends up this summer, with a renewal at Rangers now on the cards following the emergence of this latest detail.

However, for Liverpool and Leeds, they have the pulling power and the youth record to lure Wilson to the Premier League if the striker decides to reject Rangers’ contract offer, with the two clubs having an incredible history in recent years of developing young players.

With 40 goals this year at youth level, the hype around Wilson is understandable, with Rangers one of the top British clubs for producing and developing young players, and for Liverpool and Leeds, they will hope the striker rejects the contract on offer with the Bears.

After all, Wilson could develop into a sensational attacker if given the chance to continue his development at the likes of Liverpool and Leeds, who in recent years have produced some of the best players in the Premier League and for the England national team.
