Reports from Germany suggest Liverpool and Arsenal are both keeping tabs on Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl.

One of the more noticeable shifts in Liverpool’s recruitment strategy has been a stronger emphasis on signing younger players with long-term upside. January saw them make a £60m move for 20-year-old Jeremy Doku, while also adding more teenagers to their youth set-up.

Karl’s agent, Kevin Räber, was asked about potential interest in the 18-year-old midfielder during an interview with Sky Germany, but he chose to remain tight-lipped.

The report says that “many clubs” are looking at the teenager right now. But another name mentioned is Arsenal, who have already made one major addition from Bayern’s ranks by signing Joshua Kimmich this summer.

Graeme Bailey from TeamTalk reports that both clubs are keeping a close eye on the young midfielder.

Karl is contracted to Bayern until 2028, giving the German club some leverage in any future negotiations. Both clubs are said to be monitoring his progress closely.

While Real Madrid, Barcelona, and PSG are also reported to be interested in Karl, it’s the English sides—Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City—who are reportedly tracking him most closely at this stage.

Bayern aren’t sitting idle either. They’re currently in talks with Karl over a new four-year contract extension, which could complicate any potential move.

Muller praised Karl’s technical abilities late last year:

”His shooting technique is certainly exceptional. He has very good finishing,” Muller said. “And that’s already an excellent asset to have because if you play in attack for FC Bayern and you’re energetic and agile, you’ll constantly find yourself in scoring positions.”
