Caoimhin Kelleher is happy with his role as Alisson’s understudy at Anfield, but has told RTE he is prepared to speak with Jurgen Klopp if chances to play for Liverpool are not on offer.
The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper believes he is in a good situation at present in being the Reds’ number two. Kelleher appreciates the opportunity he has to train with elite players on Merseyside each week, and feature when Klopp needs.
He has no regrets over staying at Anfield rather than potential loan transfers to play more regularly. The 22-year-old has only featured once this season when Klopp named a heavily-changed line-up against Norwich in the Carabao Cup.

Kelleher also made three of his five appearances in cup matches last term, with regular chances rarely forthcoming at Liverpool. Yet, despite his rare outings costing him a chance to become Ireland’s number one, he will only speak with Klopp if his situation gets worse.
“Liverpool want me to stay,” Kelleher said. “I’m number two this season, and it’s a good position to be in, I think. Hopefully, it’s a chance to play some games and the opportunity to play at a high level.
“It’s different for everyone: different individuals, it’s different journeys. The way my career is going is completely different, so I don’t have any regrets.
“I am happy to do what I do and how it has turned out. If I need to have a conversation about playing more games, I’ll have it. I’m in a good position where I am.”

Should Liverpool have sent Kelleher out on loan this summer?
Kelleher showed promise in his performances for Liverpool last season to warrant Klopp making him Alisson’s understudy. But his progress could stagnate the longer he spends on the bench at Anfield over playing regularly.
Alisson will only vacate the Reds’ net through injury, suspension or Klopp wanting to rest the Brazilian in lesser matches. That’s how Kelleher got his chances last season, and so far this term against Norwich and likely at Preston in the next round of the EFL Cup this month.
Kelleher clearly realises his progress could slow if minutes prove less available at Liverpool. But he is not in any rush to make a snap verdict and ask to leave on loan. Believing the benefits of being at Anfield currently outweigh the gains of frequent appearances.
