Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero is preparing for Copa America in the perfect way.
Argentina, who are defending their Copa America crown, beat Ecuador 1-0 in a friendly on Sunday in Chicago, USA.
Cristian Romero started the game for his country and he kept a clean sheet alongside his partner in crime, Manchester United’s, Lisandro Martinez.
The ever-reliable Emiliano Martinez was in between the sticks, with Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna making the rest of the backline.
Another Tottenham player also started the game – Giovani Lo Celso – and he will be hoping for more game time than what he got under Ange Postecoglou this term.
Lo Celso only played 492 minutes of football and he will be hoping he can showcase his true worth this summer because winning with Argentina, after missing out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will be huge for him and his next possible destination.
Nonetheless, Romero was his old typical self for Argentina and that’s now three wins this year in his nation’s colours and two clean sheets.
That steely and no-nonsense defence is what is going to push Argentina so far again, with Romero lauded by his teammates on Instagram.
The 26-year-old posted a picture of himself during the national anthems, with L.Martinez, Lo Celso and Emiliano Martinez sending him messages.

‘My crazy wolf,” wrote L. Martinez to Romero, with Lo Celso calling him ‘the assistant’ and Emi Martinez adding by saying ‘My central’.
Cristian Romero at Tottenham next season
There is going to be huge pressure on the player and his club because they will now be expected to go to the next level.
Spurs returned to Europe by securing Europa League football, but given that they weren’t playing midweek games and Aston Villa were in the Conference League, then they will be annoyed that they were beaten to fourth spot by Unai Emery’s side.

All eyes will now be on Daniel Levy to see what he can conjure up from the summer transfer market because Postecoglou needs backing.
This is where it usually starts to go wrong for the club and they are looking for a new manager because that has been the norm since Mauricio Pochettino left.
