Tottenham Hotspur have already secured their first big deal of the 2024 summer transfer window.

After spending six months on loan, Spurs have decided to bring back Timo Werner for a full campaign from RB Leipzig.

Even though some have been left perplexed by this deal, you feel it has more to do with bulking up the squad for Ange Postecoglou because the team will be returning to Europe next season.

Where Daniel Levy really needs to show his worth is by bringing in the top stars who can come in and fight for a starting spot straight away at Tottenham.

Yes, a lot will be dependent on who leaves because the books might need to be balanced out, with the likes of Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Saudi Arabia-linked Emerson Royal all expected to depart.

Fans are expectant. And so is the Spurs manager. They expect big players to come in, so the club can move forward, especially with the feel-good factor around Hotspur Way.

But things might not go as well as people think, according to Craig Burley.

The former Scotland international thinks ‘Daniel Levy isn’t going to give him this huge budget’ and they ‘won’t fight tooth and nail’ with the likes of Arsenal for the ‘top players’, as he told ESPN.

That won’t sit well with the supporters because they will feel, in order to claw back the gap between themselves and Arsenal, they have to start competing for the best stars across Europe, or else, they won’t move forward.

“They need to go out and get a frontman,” said Burley. “But we all know they aren’t going to pay. They aren’t going to go and fight tooth and nail with Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and the rest in England to get that top player.

“So, they are going to have to find it from somewhere else. Postecoglou has managed around Asia and Australia, blah, blah, blah. At Celtic, he picked some really good players out for not a lot of money. From Japan and counties around that area. It’s whether they feel we can go back into that kind of market for untapped talent who are cheaper and can come in and do a job. Doing the job at Celtic is a little bit easier than coming in and doing it in the Premier League.

“Maybe that’s the way he is going to have to go because Daniel Levy isn’t going to give him this huge budget to go and get the top players. He knew that when he took the job anyway. He knew that.”

Daniel Levy will do things his way

From Mauricio Pochettino to Jose Mourinho. They have all tried to push Spurs to the top and to that much-wanted trophy, but they have fallen flat on their face.

Levy has always proven to be a stumbling block in that because of how he operates, doesn’t take risks or push the boat out like others would want him to do.

History suggests that, if things will go wrong for Postecoglou, then it’s next season.

It’s what has happened with the past few managers and the team must remain in Europe next season, or even better, make a return to the Champions League.
