Tim Sherwood slammed the Tottenham Hotspur players for the manner in which they were warming-up prior to their comeback 3-2 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The TV pundit compared it to marathon legend and Olympic Gold medalist Mo Farah by stating it was slow and there was ‘no sharpness’ to what they were doing.

Antonio Conte’s side started like they had 11 Mo Farah’s in their XI because, with an hour gone on the clock, they were 2-0 down and facing a possible third straight Premier League defeat.

But that’s when Usain Bolt was handed the baton and Spurs started to charge towards the newly-promoted side.

The likes of Lucas Moura, Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Bryan Gil and Rodrigo Bentancur were introduced into the action and every single one of them made the difference in Spurs securing a stoppage-time winner.

But, for a number of games now, Spurs have showcased a tendency to start slow and Sherwood thinks it’s linked to how they warm-up before games, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (29/10/22 at 2:45 pm).

“I just watched that warm-up, though,” said Sherwood. “That warm-up. I didn’t like that. They are all jogging around. They are all like Mo Farah running around there.

“There’s no sharpness about their warm-up. Perhaps he needs to look at that. If they are slow starters, he (Conte) could look at that.”

FAST START IS NEEDED AGAINST MARSEILLE

Tottenham weren’t punished for their slow start against Bournemouth given the quality they were up against.

But that wasn’t the case when they faced the likes of Sporting Lisbon, Newcastle United and Manchester United in recent weeks.

If they go down a similar road against Marseille on Tuesday night, then Spurs might find that they will drop out of the Champions League altogether, despite, at one point, thinking they had reached the knockout stages, only for Harry Kane’s stoppage-time winner to be ruled out for offside.
