Jamie Carragher hit back at a Tottenham Hotspur fan for jibing at Arsenal for not having any backbone by telling the supporter ‘that has to be proven this season’ by Spurs, as he told The Overlap.
That lack of backbone is being thrown at Arsenal because, towards the back end of last season, they were the ones who opened the door for Tottenham to secure Champions League football.
Defeats against Crystal Palace and Newcastle United – both away from home and night games – hurt Mikel Arteta’s side pretty hard.

But, the one that hurt the most was their defeat in the north London derby, if Arsenal had won that match, then fourth spot was in the bag.
Instead, that door opened and Antonio Conte’s side took full advantage, as Carragher issued this response when Spurs fan Flav told Robbie off AFTV that it wasn’t the fact that Spurs finished one point above them, but ‘how Arsenal collapsed’ that is something that might not be able to be fixed.
“Let’s not start to say that ‘Spurs have got backbone’,” said Carragher by raising both of his hands in bewilderment. “Oh my God! The amount of times you throw it away. That has to be proven this season.”

WHO WILL SHOW BACKBONE THIS SEASON?
Tottenham have always had the ‘Spursy’ tag on their heads for years and years, and in truth, until they get over that dotted line, then it will never change.
But the man in their dugout is far from that and that’s where Spurs fans will be hoping things change for them.
Arsenal collapsed in worrying fashion last season, and come the business end of this forthcoming campaign, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the north London duo have very little between them again.
That’s when the real test will come and the backbone of these teams will be questioned, with both having positive summer transfer windows in order to push further forward.
Arsenal’s best purchase was perhaps Gabriel Jesus, who joined as a multiple Premier League winner from Manchester City, whilst Richarlison was Tottenham’s most expensive purchase, although, Ivan Perisic was perhaps their best addition on a free transfer.
