Everton’s long-serving defender Leighton Baines has pledged his future to the Blues, after being linked with a move to MLS outfit LA Galaxy this summer, according to BBC Sport.

The 33-year-old is currently serving a contract lasting until the summer of 2019 – making 29 appearances in all competitions last term – but he is said to be keen on extending his stay in Merseyside.

Former Watford boss Marco Silva has been touted as the likely replacement for Sam Allardyce this summer (Sky Sports), and Baines is interested in becoming part of a more progressive project at Goodison Park, with owner Farhad Moshiri targeting Champions League football in 2019/20.

And fans were overjoyed with the defender’s decision to stay, here’s the reaction:

Everton are due a busy summer of recruitment in order to have a run at achieving their lofty European ambitions, but the current crop of players seem on board.

Midfielder Idrissa Gueye firmly believes his side can get there in the near future and will likely remain as a key figure in the project, alongside the veteran Baines next term, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
