Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye believes Everton will be playing in the Champions League come the 2019/20 season.
Everton are eyeing a return to the Champions League next term and Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye firmly believes his side can get there, as reported by Liverpool Echo.
The Blues endured a strange campaign in 2017/18, eventually finishing eighth in the Premier League after club-record spending in the transfer window. The quality of football was also bemoaned by supporters, with the pragmatic Sam Allardyce having been shown the door early this summer as a result.
One player who has consistently performed at the required level is Gueye, who made the second most successful tackles in the league last term – second only to Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.
The former Aston Villa man made 38 appearances in all competitions and bagged three goals, but his overall contribution has earned him plaudits from pundits and fans all season.
The midfielder is now hoping to take his impressive form into the upcoming campaign, as the team look to elevate themselves to higher levels, with the 28-year-old claiming that the Blue half of Merseyside should once again be playing European football, in quotes from Dean Perretta from Fox Sports Radio.
“I want to help the club fight for Europe next season,” Gueye is quoted as saying.
“This club has been great to me since I have arrived. We have so much quality in the team. Yes, last season was difficult, but we are very capable of again playing in Europe.”
The 28-year-old’s ambitions dovetail with owner Farhad Moshiri who also claims Everton are building towards becoming a Champions League team, as they search for a progressive and attacking manager to spearhead the club to greater things.
