Sevilla have reportedly dropped their interest in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, potentially clearing the path for Leicester City to land the Bundesliga star.

According to Estadio Deportivo, the La Liga side are unable to financially compete with the likes of Leicester, AC Milan and Napoli for Dahoud’s signature, with the 27-year-old set to leave Dortmund for free in the summer when his contract comes to an end.

Lauded by Dortmund manager Edin Terzic as an ‘outstanding’ talent, Dahoud has missed most of this season due to a shoulder injury, with the Syria-born playmaker making just six appearances in all competitions for the German giants, making three starts in total.

With Dahoud’s contract now coming to an end this summer, it makes sense why the midfielder is keen on a move in what is essentially the prime of his career, and Leicester could now be favourites to sign the Dortmund star with Sevilla now out of the race.

Indeed, although Milan and Napoli could offer some strong competition for Leicester, the expected departure of Youri Tielemans this summer means that Brendan Rodgers is in the market for a new starting central midfielder, with Dahoud the perfect name to replace the Belgian international.

And with Sevilla now out of the running, Leicester’s main competition for Dahoud is now no more, which means the Foxes could start work on bringing in the midfielder on a pre-contract agreement ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.

Leicester were once kings of the transfer market and the best club in the Premier League for finding value in the market, and signing Dahoud would be a return to form for the King Power Stadium side, who could land a potential bargain in the German international.

Dahoud brings a lot of qualities Tielemans has brought to Leicester over the years, and with the midfielder at the peak of his career, the 27-year-old could elevate Leicester back to a level where they are competing for European places in the Premier League standings.
