Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic has paid tribute to the departing Mo Dahoud as Leicester City look to bring the Bundesliga benchwarmer to the Premier League, speaking to Sport Buzzer.

Earlier this week, BVB director Sebstian Kehl confirmed that Dahoud would leave the Signal Iduna Park this summer; his contract running out in July.

It is difficult to imagine that Dortmund would have made such a decision, however, if the former Monchengladbach schemer had been able to maintain his impressive start to the current campaign.

“He started every game at the start of the season. Then, unfortunately, he got very badly injured and was out for a long time,” Terzic points out.

“We had hoped that he’d be ready to play straight away in January. He’s still a bit behind schedule and didn’t have that confidence in the duels.”

Will Mo Dahoud be Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans replacement?

Dahoud spent three months out of action with a shoulder injury. His return to full fitness, meanwhile, has coincided with Dortmund’s finest run of the season; eight wins in a row across all competitions.

In addition to the irrepressible Jude Bellingham, Emre Can, Salih Ozcan and Julian Brandt are now playing their best football under Terzic, consigning Dahoud to a watching brief.

The 27-year-old has played just 14 minutes since the Qatar World Cup break.

“We began the winning streak, and the guys in his position just did really well,” Terzic adds.

“I would not and could not say anything negative about Mo Dahoud. Mo is a fantastic person and an outstanding footballer with really great skills.”

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Leicester City, AC Milan and Serie A leaders Napoli are all hot on Dahoud’s heels. A player with his poise and technical ability in the centre of the park could help offset the likely departure of Youri Tielemans at the King Power Stadium.

Dahoud, when a regular under Marco Rose, produced an impressive seven assists in 2021/22. Three of those came in the Champions League.
