Leicester City are in talks to bring Ademola Lookman back to the Premier League but RB Leipzig’s demands could make a deal difficult before tonight’s transfer deadline, as reported by The Sun (31 August, page 53).

Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes have spent pretty much the entire summer looking for a new wide player but, with just a few hours to go before the market closes until 2022, all that early window optimism could end with a dash of disappointment.

Unless an agreement can be reached with England U21 international Lookman, of course.

According to The Sun, talks with the Bundesliga giants are under way with Lookman, who impressed in fits and bursts during a loan spell at Fulham in 2020/21, keen on a return to British soil.

However, it’s understood Leicester and Leipzig are poles apart in their valuation of the one-time Everton and Charlton speedster, meaning Rodgers could yet turn his attention elsewhere.

Leicester look to Lookman but the fee may be a problem

The FA Cup holders had been linked with another London-born wideman in the shape of Noni Madueke. But the PSV Eindhoven talisman signed a new, long-term deal last week, putting a big-money transfer on the back burner for the time being.

Leipzig are believed to be demanding £15 million for Lookman, a sizeable sum but far less than the German outfit paid Everton in 2019.

“(Lookman) has been in exceptional form and has really been Fulham’s most dangerous player in several games recently when they’ve been doing so well,” former Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodsgon said when the winger was linked with the Eagles a few months ago.
