Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Raphinha amid ongoing transfer speculation around the Brazilian.

Barcelona have been strongly linked for the longest time now, and reports this week have indicated that Arsenal are pushing ahead with their interest in the Leeds United winger.

Romano has shared the state of play with Raphinha, stating that reports of Barcelona signing the winger for €40m (£35m) are wide of the mark, stating that Leeds will never accept a bid so low for their talisman, claiming that the Whites expect to receive around €65-75m for the attacker.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about the Leeds star.

“Everything is ready on Raphinha’s side with Barcelona, but not on Leeds’ side. When I read around €40m from Barcelona for Leeds to sign Raphinha, the answer I’m receiving is that it’s impossible to complete the deal for €40m, Leeds will never accept that fee, they want way more than this. What I’m told is that the expectation is for the final fee to be around €65-75m,” Romano said.

Leeds have the power

This update just goes to show how valuable staying in the Premier League was for Leeds United.

Had Leeds been relegated on the final day of the season, they would have been forced into selling Raphinha for a pittance. After all, he had a £25m relegation release clause.

However, now, Leeds don’t have to sell the Braziilan for a penny less than he’s worth, and they’re more than happy to bat away bids that would represent a club-record sale at Elland Road.

Somehow, even with Barcelona and Arsenal circling, Leeds have all of the power in this situation.
