Gary Lineker has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:26pm, October 2, 2021) that Leeds United were very much like they were last season in their win against Watford at Elland Road.

Leeds got the better of Watford 1-0 at home in the Premier League yesterday.

Diego Llorente’s goal in the 18th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker and BBC Match of the Day pundit Lineker believes that Marcelo Bielsa’s side looked like the Leeds of of last season.

Lineker said: “First win of the season for Leeds, and it was very much like the Leeds of last season, wasn’t it?”

Back to their best?

The win against Watford was the first in the Premier League for Leeds this season.

It was coming.

The Whites played well against West Ham United and Newcastle United, but they just could not manage to get the wins.

And on Saturday, they did.

Leeds were the better side, especially in the first half, and simply rolled over Watford.

Now, you could point to the disallowed Watford goal, but what’s to say that Leeds would not have scored again if they had to?

The win is certainly the best way for Leeds to head into the international break.
