Ian Wright has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:28pm, October 2, 2021) that Leeds United defender Liam Cooper committed a foul on Watford’s Christian Kabasele at Elland Road yesterday.
What’s the story?
Leeds won 1-0 against Watford at Elland Road in the Premier League yesterday.
Diego Llorente scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute.
There was one major controversial incident in the game.
Watford central defender Kabasele had the ball in the back of the net after Illan Meslier failed to hold onto it.
However, VAR ruled out the goal.
Kabasele was adjudged to have pushed Leeds defender Cooper to get to the ball.

Ian Wright’s verdict
Former Arsenal striker and BBC Match of the Day pundit Wright believes that Cooper was lucky because the Leeds defender committed a foul on Kabasele, not the other way round.
The Englishman thinks that the goal from Watford should have stood.
Wright said: “Kabasele is being fouled here by Cooper. Firstly, he grabs him here, he grabs his shirt, then he grabs around his shirt, he has pulled him down. I can’t understand why that is not a clear and obvious error.”
Leeds were better
It was a divisive decision, with former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen saying that the goal was correctly disallowed.
What we cannot argue about is that Leeds were the better team overall.
