Leeds United youngster Alfie McCalmont will sign a new contract soon, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

It has been reported that the defensive midfielder will sign a new three-year contract next week.

The report has added that the 20-year-old – described as “a special player” by then Leeds Under-23 coach and now Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan on LUTV in November 2019, as covered by HITC Sport here – could be sent out on loan this summer after he signs the new deal.

Promising player

McCalmont is probably not ready to play week in and week out for the Leeds first team, especially in the Premier League.

However, the 20-year-old is a very promising defensive midfielder whose tough-tackling and possession abilities could see him make himself an important member of the squad at Elland Road in the coming years.

It would make sense for the Northern Ireland international to go out on loan to a club in the Championship and get some regular playing time next season.

Perhaps Huddersfield could come calling for him, as Corberan knows the 20-year-old well.
