Oscar Mingueza was linked with Leeds United and now finds himself on Barcelona’s unwanted list having been axed by Xavi.

Leeds have been busy in the transfer market this summer with Victor Orta desperate to improve the squad at Jesse Marsch’s disposal.

Adding a new right back was a priority and Marsch swooped to land one of his former players Rasmus Kristensen.

Leeds haven’t yet added a new centre back though and that could still be an area for the Whites to consider before the deadline.

One name linked was Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza, who can play at both right back and centre back.

Catalan newspaper SPORT reported in June that Barcelona were hoping to send Mingueza to Leeds this summer.

The idea was for Mingueza to be used in a part-exchange deal for Raphinha as Barcelona attempted to drive down Leeds’ asking price.

That didn’t happen though as Barcelona agreed to pay a huge fee for Raphinha just a matter of days ago.

So what next for Mingueza?

The 23-year-old has made 66 first-team appearances for Barcelona but now appears to be on the chopping block.

Barcelona are flying out to the United States for their pre-season tour and have decided to leave Mingueza out of the squad.

Xavi has left five players out of the trip with Mingueza joining Martin Braithwaite, Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig and Neto on the excluded list.

Mingueza will likely to have a number of suitors this summer and Leeds may just think about having another look at the Spaniard.

That positional versatility at the back could be very valuable to Leeds, though they may well fear signing another Barcelona defender after the Junior Firpo deal last summer.

A left back will likely be more of a priority for Leeds but Mingueza is there and available to be signed if they want him.
