Alan Shearer reserved special praise for Leeds United No.1 Illan Meslier for his excellent display in his side’s 4-2 victory against Wolves.
Subsequently, the 23-year-old managed to become the youngest goalkeeper in Premier League history to make 100 appearances in the same game. With the Whites in desperate need of a win before the contest, the all-important 3 points have catapulted them to 14th place.
And according to Alan Shearer, much like several Leeds fans, a huge reason behind their triumph against Wolves as Illan Meslier.
Shearer praised Meslier display during Leeds vs Wolves
While the French shotstopper has often received stick for perhaps making the odd clanger in his career, it’s safe to say that much like against Wolves, he has a tendency to come up clutch for his side.
Since Leeds’ return to the English top-flight, Meslier has largely been one of the standout goalkeepers in the entirety of the division.
As Alan Shearer was picking his Premier League Team of the Week, Illan Meslier, alongside Jack Harrison as well was one of the two Leeds players selected for their showings against Wolves.

“If it wasn’t for him in goal, Leeds may not have come away with the three points.”
Meslier needs to be at his very best until the end of the season
The league table can fool one into thinking that Javi Gracia’s side are not in a relegation battle as they are sitting in 14th place, when in fact the side is just two points off the drop zone.
Taking that into consideration, as Leeds may be under the cosh for chunks of games like against Wolves, they will need the ‘outstanding’ Meslier to turn potential draws into wins, as Shearer suggested.
Much like Jordan Pickford was an impenetrable force for Everton in their survival story last season, the Leeds man must have to play in a similar vein.
