Leeds United fancy signing Maxwel Cornet but the Burnley ace looks close to signing for West Ham United instead.

Burnley were always bound to lose players after relegation to the Championship, and so it has proved.

Nick Pope has moved on to Newcastle United, Ben Mee has joined Brentford, Wout Weghorst has moved on loan to Besiktas and both James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil have signed for Everton.

Burnley may lose more players before the transfer deadline too with winger Cornet seemingly on the verge of leaving Turf Moor.

90Min claim that West Ham United are progressing with their talks to sign Cornet.

The Guardian add that a deal for Cornet to join West Ham is now close after a £17million offer was rejected on Tuesday night.

90Min’s report suggests that West Ham face major competition for Cornet with Leeds United one of the teams interested.

It’s added that Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen, alongside Everton, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

Cornet being linked with Leeds will make fans think of last summer, when reports suggested that Victor Orta had made a cash bid for the Ivorian.

Burnley ended up winning the race but Orta may well have kept close tabs on Cornet’s situation at Turf Moor.

The 25-year-old notched nine goals and one assist in 26 Premier League games last season.

Cornet is an interesting target for Leeds and another winger being linked after rumours surrounding Ismaila Sarr on Tuesday.

Leeds already have three star wingers in Jack Harrison, Daniel James and new signing Luis Sinisterra.

Harrison has been heavily linked with Newcastle United and interest in Cornet may have been registered just in case Harrison goes.

Both Cornet and Harrison are left-footed wingers and can even play as wing backs if needed, so you can see why Leeds may fancy the Burnley man.

It looks like West Ham are leading the race though, with Leeds maybe lurking in the background in case that move falls apart.
