Leeds United were chasing Birmingham City teenager George Hall earlier this season and are now rekindling their interest ahead of the summer window.

The Daily Mail reported back in November that Leeds were looking to sign Hall, but faced competition from moneybags Newcastle United.

The January transfer window passed without Hall securing a move away from Birmingham, but the interest seems to be returning.

It’s suggested that Leeds are back in the race for Hall, with Southampton also interested in snapping up the teenager.

Hall, 17, started a Championship game against Queens Park Rangers in January but hasn’t featured since.

Playing just off Troy Deeney that day, Hall has also impressed scouts whilst playing as a holding midfielder in the England setup.

A versatile midfield performer who can play in attacking or defensive roles, Hall looks to be a real prospect for the future.

Leeds have placed a great emphasis on youth recruitment under Victor Orta and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see that continue.

Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville, Leo Hjelde and Lewis Bate all spring to mind, whilst Pascal Struijk has become a first-team player.

Leeds actually raided Birmingham last summer, snapping up young winger Amari Miller for their development ranks.

Leeds could now repeat the trick by signing Hall from Birmingham too, which would leave former Whites midfielder and now-Blues boss Lee Bowyer gutted.

Birmingham’s Under-18 coach Martin Olorenshaw has spoken very highly of Hall, suggesting that he is ‘explosive’, ‘dynamic’ and ‘really exciting’.

That’s the kind of talent Leeds want to add, but whether they can fend off Southampton – another club with a strong record of developing young players – remains to be seen.
