Leeds United are reportedly looking to recall Charlie Cresswell from his season-long loan spell at Millwall, with English clubs interested in signing the defender both on a permanent and temporary basis.
According to the Athletic, the Whites are exploring the option of bringing the 20-year-old centre-back back to Elland Road amid a fresh surge of interest in Cresswell from Championship clubs, with some English sides even looking at signing the defender on a permanent deal.
Cresswell has featured quite heavily for the south London side this season with the England youth international making 17 appearances in all competitions. However, the youngster has been in and out of Millwall’s starting XI, prompting Championship clubs to nudge Leeds into recalling the defender.
Described as ‘unreal’ by Leeds teammate Joe Gelhardt, many Leeds supporters and critics have tipped Cresswell to have a future at Elland Road, with the centre-back making six appearances for the first-team last season before being sent out on loan this campaign to Millwall.

Indeed, Jesse Marsch’s record of developing youth players suggest that Cresswell could one day become a regular for Leeds under the American manager. However, this latest update that English clubs are interested in signing the centre-back on a permanent deal could worry some White fans.
Which is why recalling Cresswell should only have the sole intention of sending the defender back out on loan to another club, with Leeds knowing how good a talent they have on their hands and how foolish an endeavour it would be to sell the centre-back this month.
Leeds must know what they’re doing amid Cresswell recall

Cresswell made quite a name for himself last season with Leeds after being handed his senior debut by Marcelo Bielsa, with many fans eager for the defender to eventually become a staple of the first-team in the years to come. Which is why the next decision made by the Whites is so crucial.
After all, Cresswell has the potential to become a quality defender for Leeds, especially under Marsch. And another loan spell out in the Championship where the centre-back will be a regular could be massive in the youngster’s development in 2023.
