Joe Gelhardt has labelled Charlie Cresswell’s as ‘unreal’ on Instagram, after the Leeds loanee netted a brace on his Millwall debut on Saturday.

Gary Rowett’s side beat Stoke City 2-0 to open their Championship campaign in perfect style, with their new boy impressing a packed-out Old Den crowd.

Previously, Cresswell had never scored a senior goal, but, like two London buses coming at one time, he netted in either half in the capital yesterday.

Both of the centre-back goals came from corners, the first a well-guided header, before he found space in the box again in the second half to volley home from close range.

After the game, Cresswell expressed his delight on his IG and how ‘this is only the start’ for himself and his promotion-chasing side.

In the comments of his post, ex-Leeds winger Jack Clarke praised his former teammate by saying ‘top work’, whilst Sam Greenwood joked ‘Must be that barnet. Well done, bro.’

BIG SEASON AHEAD FOR CRESSWELL

As Leeds players found out themselves, one season in the Championship, added with the success of gaining promotion, can do the world of good for a player.

England’s lower leagues are a gold mine and it’s where future stars are born, in recent times, the likes of Tammy Abraham, Kalvin Phillips, Mason Mount, Jack Grealish and Ben White, to name a few, have made a name for themselves, before thriving on bigger stages.

In Leeds colours, Cresswell showcased a lot of promise and probably could have been kept on by Jesse Marsch ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

But a season in the Championship will do him a world of good and test the waters to see where his levels are, because if he passes this test, then regular minutes in the Premier League await.
