Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore is considering signing a new contract at Molineux. The Wolves star was a transfer target of Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports Traore is weighing up an offer worth far less than £100k-a-week. Wolves are open to extending the 27-year-old’s time at the team. But they are not willing to pay the Spaniard anywhere near what they offered previously.
Traore rejected a contract nearing six figures a week two years ago that would have made him one of Wolves’ highest earners. Now, his existing £55k-a-week deal will expire in June. He is also clear to negotiate free transfers with foreign clubs but is yet to agree any moves.

Leeds and Tottenham targeted Adama Traore’s transfer from Wolves in January
Wolves would like Traore to commit to a new contract after an upturn in form since Julen Lopetegui took charge. He replaced Bruno Lage last November and has since afforded the 27-year-old a regular role. But Napoli explored a transfer in January and could also return.
The Azzurri were not the only team to explore a move for the eight-cap international over January, either. TEAMtalk reported that Leeds sporting director Victor Orta positioned the Whites for Traore’s transfer from Wolves. He also preferred to stay in the Premier League.
Reports by 90min, which also credited Leeds with an interest, also claimed that Tottenham showed interest in a transfer with Wolves for Traore. Spurs boss Antonio Conte is a big fan of the forward. But 90min later reported that the Spaniard was reluctant to join the Italian.

Antonio Conte’s plans may have cost Spurs their chance to sign Adama Traore
Tottenham planned on using Traore as a wing-back if he agreed to join Conte’s side. But a role in defence annoyed the forward, who gave priority to teams who would afford him an offensive role. Now, Conte’s stance may cost Tottenham as he mulls a new deal at Wolves.
Yet what could help Leeds or Tottenham seal a free transfer for Traore this summer is the wage that Wolves offer him in a new contract. He is still on the same terms penned back in August 2018. The forward left Middlesbrough as Wolves triggered his £18m release clause.
