The Telegraph have reported that Leeds United considered signing Azzedine Ounahi while looking for a Kalvin Phillips replacement.

Foot Mercato have claimed that Jesse Marsch’s side have already tabled a bid to sign the World Cup sensation, as Angers have also been contacted over a potential deal by Tottenham (La Repubblica).

Unfortunately for Leeds United, the Ligue 1 president told CalcioNapoli24 have no intention of selling Azzedine Ounahi.

This comes after L’Equipe had reported that the Whites have made a £22 million offer to complete a swoop for the Moroccan in January.

However, it is not seemingly the first instance in which Leeds have tried to sign Ounahi, as the initial report states that the club viewed him as their ideal replacement for Kalvin Phillips.

It’s safe to say that the 22-year-old would prove to an incredible coup for the club, as he is easily one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe.

Especially after the youngster’s splendid showings at the World Cup, his stock remains at an all-time high.

Now, we explore this latest revelation involving the Angers starlet last summer.

According to a new report by the Telegraph, Leeds United had earmarked Azzedine Ounahi as the replacement for Kalvin Phillips, who ended up joining Manchester City in the summer.

As Ounahi ended up staying put in Ligue 1, the club decided to bring in Tyler Adams, who could reportedly now be in line to become their next club captain as the successor to Phillips.

It seems as if there is unfinished business between Leeds and Ounahi, after they failed to sign him as the answer to Kalvin Phillips’ exit.

But it seems as if the player will find it leave to tough Angers, unless a club breaks the bank for his services.
