Back in 2021, Bayer Leverkusen striker Lucas Alario was open and honest about an approach from Leeds United – and now, this summer, clubs can land the forward for a bargain £5.5million.
Alario, 29, enjoyed a stellar 20-21 campaign with Leverkusen. He scored 15 goals in 33 games, even laying on four assists. It saw Leeds make an enquiry for his services, according to the player in question, himself.
He told TyC Sports in 2021 that Leeds had made an approach. While that did not directly come from Marcelo Bielsa, Alario said that his representatives had been in talks with Leeds – but it did not exceed an approach.

Last season, Alario’s form and game time has dipped. Playing second fiddle to Patrik Schick, only 10 of his 33 outings came from the start. He saw out 90 minutes on three occasions. Alario could choose to leave this summer.
TyC Sports claim Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt – a club battling Leeds for midfielder Marc Roca – are keen and have made an offer. TyC say Alario can be signed for a bargain fee of just £5.5million.

It remains to be seen if Leeds would be interested in Alario again. But the Whites do need a striker to compete with Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt – given Bamford is injury prone and Gelhardt is still a rookie.
A striker like Alario, a bit more of a target man, a plan B, suits Leeds. Especially given he is available for such a bargain fee. If Leeds are looking for a striker this summer, then they should look no further than the Argentine.
How much more cash Leeds are willing to spend, remains to be seen. They are about to sanction the signing of Roca, taking their spend to £50million. It might need a sale of Kalvin Phillips or Raphinha, before spending continues.
