“Leeds fans will join us”: Ian Wright makes claim ahead of Arsenal vs Leeds on Saturday

Ian Wright has made a claim about Leeds fans as Arsenal prepare to take on the Whites at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday.

What’s the story?

Well, it isn’t often that Leeds and Arsenal fans unite over anything, but Wright has correctly highlighted the fact that everyone inside the Emirates Stadium on Saturday will come together for David Rocastle.

Friday 31st March signals 22 years since Rocastle, who played for both Arsenal and Leeds, died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

On Twitter, he wrote: “It’s a day that’s never easy because it kinda hits you all from over. 22 years ago and it feels like yesterday. We miss and love you brother. The great thing about Saturday is that the Leeds fans will join us when we sing his name. He was so loved #Rocky”

Wright and Rocastle were very close friends, and the 59-year-old is quite rightly keen to keep his memory alive on the 22nd anniversary of his passing.

Rocastle made 229 appearances for Arsenal from 1985 to 1992, winning two First Division titles and a number of other trophies during a hugely successful period with the Gunners.

He then joined Leeds in 1992, where he made 28 appearances for the Whites, winning the FA Charity Shield.

Rocastle was a hugely popular figure in north London as well as in Yorkshire, and hopefully, both sets of supporters show plenty of love at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Arsenal receive boost ahead of Leeds clash

While it is sure to be an emotional occasion, Mikel Arteta will feel quietly optimistic of picking up three points based on who Leeds will be without.

Javi Gracia revealed on Thursday that he will be missing Wilfried Gnonto, Tyler Adams and Max Wober for Saturday’s clash, all of whom are vital players at Elland Road.

Of course, that doesn’t mean things will be easy, but it certainly gives the Gunners a boost in what is a must-win game in the Premier League title race.

Having said that, it is also a must-win for Leeds, who could slip back into the relegation zone if they lose, depending on other results. Therefore, both sides will be full of motivation, in what should be an entertaining spectacle.
