Ryan Kent produced a masterclass for Rangers on Wednesday night as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side ripped up the script to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in Germany. From afar, Leeds fans were mightily impressed.
Kent, 25, has been long admired by Bielsa and Leeds since he moved north of the border from Liverpool – initially on loan at Rangers, before completing a £7million (Mirror) move. He is crucial to the Gers.
After a tricky campaign last season due to injury, Kent is returning to his best form again. At the WestFalenStadion last night, he was superb – notching his 12th assist in 26 games to set up midfielder John Lundstram.
Lundstram, a James Tavernier penalty and a tap-in from Alfredo Morelos – as well as an own goal from Dan-Axel Zagadou saw Rangers win 4-2. Jude Bellingham and Raphael Guerreiro got the goals for Marco Rose’s side.
Last summer, The Star – among many other outlets – reported that Leeds still held an interest in £18million-rated Kent. It is much like Bielsa, to retain an interest in a player he wants between windows – look at Brenden Aaronson.
Above is Kent’s gorgeous assist, going past three Dortmund players before setting up Lundstram to finish superbly. Against one of the best footballing sides in European football, van Bronckhorst masterminded a superb win.
Leeds fans discuss Rangers star Kent after sparkling Dortmund display
Speaking after the match, Owen Hargreaves compared Kent to Franck Ribery in the way the England youth international runs with the ball. Indeed, he might be a man of interest this summer, if Raphinha goes.
Leeds are well stocked out wide, with Crysencio Summerville remaining at the club in January. Jack Harrison and Raphinha currently start as Dan James continues to deputise for Patrick Bamford up top.
But a new winger might be added in the summer and Leeds fans, having watched Kent shine for Ibrox club Rangers on Thursday night, are hopeful that finally – the winger might end up at Elland Road.
