Fans of Leeds United celebrate during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on December 26, 2018 in Leeds, England.

Leeds United fans are reacting to reports the Whites have agreed a deal for their first summer signing… in February.

According to the Scottish Sun, Leeds and Motherwell have settled on an initial £150,000 fee for Stuart McKinstry, the Scottish side’s 16-year-old right-winger.

McKinstry has yet to make his debut for the Well, but was named on the bench for their Boxing Day defeat against Kilmarnock and has impressed for Scotland at youth-team level – scoring for the Under-17s earlier this month.

It is likely that the youngster, for whom it is claimed Leeds could eventually have to pay £400,000, will be placed within the Whites’ development squad initially – following in the footsteps of recent Elland Road recruits, Leif Davis, Jordan Stevens, Ryan Edmondson and Sam Dalby.

But several of a Leeds persuasion are excited nonetheless [as long as he is better than the last player they signed from Fir Park].
