Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Stuart McKinstry in the summer transfer window, according to the Scottish Sun.

But what should Leeds fans know about their maiden 2019/20 recruit?

HITC Sport has the lowdown, below…

Who is he?

McKinstry is a 16-year-old right-winger who plays for Motherwell FC. He is son of the former Well player, John McKinstry, and should not be confused with Jake Hastie, another of the Scottish club’s wide men who is also said to be interesting Leeds [Daily Record].

16’s pretty young…

So young, in fact, that McKinstry is still awaiting his first appearance in senior football. He was, however, named on the bench for Motherwell’s 1-0 defeat against Kilmarnock on Boxing Day.

Where’s he from?

McKinstry was born in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire and raised a Motherwell fan – initially representing his local side as mascot against Panathinaikos seven years ago. His talent has already been recognised by Scotland, for whom he has won youth-level caps. He scored as the Under-17s beat Hungary 2-1 earlier this month.

Are Leeds the only club keen?

Not according to the Scottish Sun, which claims Leeds have fought off late interest from Premier League Southampton to sign McKinstry. The newspaper had claimed in January that both teams had agreed fees with Motherwell.

How much will he cost?

The Scottish Sun states Motherwell will receive an initial payment of £150,000 for McKinstry, who has 15 months left on his contract in Scotland. It adds, however, that the fee will rise by up to £250,000 if McKinstry breaks into the Leeds first team.
