Leeds United are closing in on the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams this week – a player Ralf Rangnick has compared to that of Bayern Munich superstar Joshua Kimmich in recent times.
Adams, 23, is one of two signings Leeds are hoping to complete by the end of the week, before the club travel to Australia for pre-season. It is believed that a move for the USA international is likely to cost £15million.
The midfielder is able to play in numerous positions but is best in holding midfield – even captaining the USA as a no.4 at times. He has worked under Jesse Marsch at Leipzig, and at MLS side New York Red Bulls.

Speaking in 2021, ex-Manchester United manager – and now the Austria gaffer – Rangnick was full of praise for Adams. He compared the midfielder to Kimmich, a player that is earning a huge £306,000 a week at Bayern (Sun).
“Like Joshua, Tyler has an unbelievable will to win,” Rangnick told bundesliga.com recently. “He wants to win every match and every training game. He wants to improve and listens. He’s never satisfied. The sky is the limit.
Leeds closing in on Adams: Rangnick compared to Kimmich
Losing Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City is an enormous blow. But the best way Leeds can bounce back is by completing an immediate signing of a midfielder – and Adams is just that.
Is he as good as Phillips? No, but he has the potential to reach the England star’s level. There is no better place for Adams to thrive – under a manager he knows well, in the Premier League, in a side that are free-flowing.
For an initial fee of £15million and add-ons, Leeds are getting themselves a real talent – a bargain. He could be the future of the Leeds midfield, alongside Marc Roca – one of Kimmich’s former teammates.
