After Ezgjan Alioski’s contract expired, Leeds are in need of a new left-back as Marcelo Bielsa prepares for the 2020/21 campaign.
Now, there’s a fantastic option on the market.
What’s the story?
Well, Alioski wasn’t the only man to see his contract expire yesterday, when July 1st rolled around.
Patrick Van Aanholt’s deal at Crystal Palace also ran out, making him one of the most attractive freebies up for grabs this summer.
The Dutchman has made a huge 213 Premier League appearances, across spells with Chelsea, Wigan, Sunderland and the Eagles.
In that time, Van Aanholt proved himself as a fine attacking full-back, scoring 20 goals while also providing 15 assists.
As Leeds currently have no recognised left-backs in the squad, Van Aanholt’s availability on a free will surely tempt Leeds, in our view.
Will Leeds sign Patrick van Aanholt?

It must be clarified that we haven’t pulled this link out of thin air.
According to the Mirror, Leeds are thinking about signing the 30-year-old this summer – he’s also wanted by Arsenal.
Marcelo Bielsa has also praised the left-back before, calling him ‘dangerous‘ after Crystal Palace beat Leeds 4-1 at Selhurst Park.
In our view, this is a no brainer.

Admittedly, it sounds like a deal for Barcelona’s Junior Firpo is close, with Victor Orta in advanced negotiations.
However, Van Aanholt’s love of attacking would suit Bielsa’s style, and his vast Premier League experience is something Firpo doesn’t have.
Additionally, he’s free! A player like this doesn’t become available for nothing every day, so Leeds should definitely take advantage.
