James Garner has been quoted by 90Min as commenting on his future ahead of another potential loan next season – but the Leeds and Everton target hinted at trying to impress Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag.
Garner, 21, has enjoyed a stellar 18 months with Forest. Initially joining the club in January 2021, he rejoined after the half-season spell for the entire 2021-22 season. He played 49 times over the past 12 months.
Missing just one Championship match, Garner played all three of his side’s play-off fixtures as Forest beat Huddersfield at Wembley to gain promotion. But he now returns to United, unsure if he will stay, or go on loan again.

Reports say Leeds and Everton are among the clubs eyeing the England Under-21 star – a player who Bruno Fernandes is excited by. Forest want to keep him. But Garner kept his cards close to his chest when asked about his future.
“It’s been football, football, football. I’ve not spoken to anyone at the club yet. It’s time for a rest now. I’m not too sure what the future holds,” Garner said as per 90Min. “I’m not too sure, personally [regarding any preference].
“I’ve not had much time to think in honesty. It’s down to me as a player to impress and make a mark. I know how good a style of football Ajax play so it’s exciting. I’d like to go on pre-season and impress.”

Realistically, United are going to sign a midfield general and while Garner is a talent, he is not yet good enough to be the man that dictates the Old Trafford engine room. He needs a Premier League loan move.
So, a move to Leeds, Everton or Forest could be on the cards. Forest would see him fit like a glove but the chances are, he could be in a relegation scrap with Forest. Leeds and Everton were in a relegation scrap last season.
What is for sure, is that he would be a regular for all three clubs if he was to join on loan. It will be interesting to see United’s stance under Ten Hag – does he get a chance, do they loan, or do they even sell?
