Everton are keen on signing James Garner as the Manchester United talent continues to attract major interest off the back of his exploits at Nottingham Forest.

Everton managed to dodge relegation to the Premier League with just one game to spare.

The Toffees simply can’t be in this same position next year and Frank Lampard will be desperate to stop Everton’s malaise.

That will require new signings this summer and Everton are being linked with a number of new faces.

Lampard, a former midfielder himself, will likely want to bolster his engine room this summer.

Conor Gallagher is one player to have been linked with Everton as Lampard seeks a favour from his former club.

Yet another option appears to be Manchester United midfielder Garner.

The Athletic report that Everton have joined the race to sign Garner this summer – but face major competition.

Nottingham Forest understandably want to keep hold of Garner after a superb loan spell this season.

Garner hit four goals and eight assists for Forest, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United, Leicester City and Southampton are also understood to be keen on signing Garner.

It would likely be another loan move for Garner with United unlikely to sell their talented young midfielder right now.

The most likely outcome is that Garner gets a chance to impress Erik ten Hag during pre-season and United will then explore their options.

Bruno Fernandes has picked out Garner as the United youngster he would most like to play with in the Red Devils first team one day.

That just goes to show how highly-rated Garner is at Old Trafford and what a talent Everton would be landing.

First-team action in the Premier League would be perfect for Garner’s development and Everton will hope that the prospect of working under Lampard will help win the race.
