Leeds United and Celtic fans will be encouraged to read what Craig Levein said about Josh Doig this week.

Premier League club Leeds and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic are among the clubs who have been linked with the 18-year-old defender, despite the player signing a new contract with Hibernian.

According to The Scottish Daily Mail (16/03, p76), Arsenal, Leeds and Manchester City are interested in signing the teenager from Hibernian in the summer of 2021, as covered by HITC Sport.

Sky Sports reported in late January that Celtic are monitoring the Scottish youngster with a view to a move in the summer of 2021.

Levein worked with the left-back when he was at Heart of Midlothian, and the former Hearts manager has raved about the teenager.

Edinburgh Live quotes Levein as saying: “From the boy’s point of view, he’s gone across to Hibs and done really, really well. I’m really pleased for him because he’s a smashing kid.

“He’s an athlete and such a hard working kid. People will say he’s gone from Hearts to Hibs but I was thrilled for him. He had done okay at Hearts but not well enough to play on a regular basis. What’s worked well for him is that at the time he’s left, he’s physically quite well prepared.

“It hasn’t been a huge problem for him to deal with things physically; it’s just whether technically he could get up to the level sooner rather than later and I’m really pleased that he’s managed to do that quickly.”

Good signing for Leeds United or Celtic?

Doig has done well at Hibernian, and given his age and quality, for the right price, he would be a brilliant signing for Leeds or Celtic, not just for now, but in the long run as well.

According to WhoScored, the Scottish talent has made 22 starts and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Hibernian so far this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.
