On-loan Leeds United star Jack Harrison has congratulated Spanish legend David Villa on Instagram after his former New York City teammate left the MLS to join Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

Harrison played alongside Villa with New York City for two years after the Leeds winger joined them in the summer of 2016, before moving to Manchester City in the 2018 January transfer window.

Harrison was joined by some illustrious players at New York, including the likes of Villa, Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard, as well as being managed by Patrick Vieira – who is currently in charge of OGC Nice.

Villa has made the surprise move to leave New York after four years with the club, and is set to move to Japan and link up with ex-Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta as well as Lukas Podolski. Harrison posted a heartfelt message on Instagram.

The news of Villa’s decision to leave New York broke last week, and it sent Leeds fans into a frenzy on Twitter. Some supporters wanted their club to sign the 2010 World Cup winner, and form a reunion with Harrison.

Harrison, 22, has been somewhat inconsistent since joining Leeds on loan from Pep Guardiola’s City. He has made 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring only one goal and failing to provide an assist.

Indeed, he has been left on the bench for the wins over Reading and Sheffield United, though the form of Gjanni Alioski may tempt Marcelo Bielsa to recall him against QPR on Saturday.
