Some Leeds United fans are urging their side to snap up David Villa after the legendary Spanish striker announced his departure from New York City FC on Wednesday.
Villa, who spent four seasons at Yankee Stadium, intends to reveal the identity of his next club within the coming days.
And while rumours suggest he is set to follow former teammates Fernando Torres and Andres Iniesta into Japanese football, these Leeds supporters are hoping he’ll reunite with another old colleague, Pablo Hernandez, at Elland Road instead.
Leeds have at times found themselves short in attack this season, with Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford each spending time on the sidelines.
But with Roofe already back and Bamford expected to follow around the New Year, the Whites may find themselves in little need of Villa’s services.
The 36-year-old, who couldn’t sign for Leeds until the January transfer window anyway, has scored more than 350 career goals for clubs including Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
It is at Valencia that he played with Hernandez, who was also an international teammate of Villa, between 2008 and 2010.
