Speaking on the Handbrake Off podcast, Lee Dixon has laid into Bernd Leno for his inability to stop Heung-min Son’s goal for Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Son’s goal was undoubtedly a Goal of the Season contender, but Dixon believes that the Gunners could have done a lot more to stop the strike from finding the back of the net.
Understandably, he wasn’t happy with Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding’s part in Son’s strike, but he was seemingly even less impressed by Leno’s contribution, or lack thereof.
“As the goal goes on it gets worse and worse and Bellerin and Holding, when you get into a position with Son like that, we were seven on three and they still scored from 25 yards out.
“I’ll talk about the goalkeeper on another podcast as well, but to get beat by that shot where it went in the net, something’s going on there as well,” Dixon said about Leno.

You can certainly tell that Dixon has never played as a goalkeeper in his career.
Yes, it’s rather embarrassing for any stopper to be beaten from 25 yards, but Son has struck that perfectly and early, so he’s caught Leno of guard with a picture-perfect curling shot.
If every goalkeeper played up to Dixon’s seemingly extraordinarily high standards, then we’d probably never see another goal from outside of the box.
We can understand why he was annoyed, his team have just lost their derby, but when you’re analysing Son’s goal it’s hard to actually place the blame on Leno.
Leno has been one of Arsenal’s only consistent performers this season, with fans lavishing praise upon him throughout the campaign.
This criticism is rather unwarranted, but Dixon is entitled to his view on the matter.
