Even at 41 years old, LeBron James will be dictating the majority of attention from NBA fans during free agency.

After all, LeBron James broke the internet after announcing that he will be exiting the Los Angeles Lakers following an eight-year stint with the team.

Since then, James’ next destination has become a burning topic of discussion, with the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers emerging as top contenders.

But what if James ignores them and focuses on winning another NBA title? Keeping that in mind, there are two destinations that we think could be an amazing fit for James.

LeBron James rectifies a mistake from 2018 by joining the Denver Nuggets

When James became a free agent in 2018, he joined the Lakers. It resulted in an NBA Championship in 2020, but the rest of LBJ’s tenure has been lackluster compared to the rest of his career.

However, another team that the King was heavily linked to in 2018 was none other than the Denver Nuggets. Yes, the same Nuggets that have become a dominant force thanks to Nikola Jokic.

Now, James may be 41, but Jokic is still in the prime of his career. However, the biggest obstacle for the Nuggets is the fact that they are already over the second apron in the salary cap.

Thus, as things stand right now, they do not have access to the $15 million non-tax mid-level exception. The Nuggets would need to salary dump in order to offer James a $6 million exception, let alone the full $15 million one.

But from the perspective of fit, it’ll undoubtedly give James a solid chance to win the fifth NBA Championship of his career.

The second least-discussed move for James is the current NBA title runner-ups, the San Antonio Spurs. The organization is fresh off its first NBA Finals run in the Victor Wembanyama era.

However, it was clear that the New York Knicks took advantage of the lack of veteran leadership in the 2026 NBA Finals. Adding James to the roster would instantly fix that for the Spurs.

Additionally, James could officially pass the baton to Wembanyama as the face of the league. But can the Spurs afford to sign James this offseason?

Well, the answer is a resounding yes, since the Spurs are currently projected to have just $164 million in salary, they can easily give James the full $15 million non-tax mid-level exception.

This is the advantage of having multiple stars still in the budding stages of their NBA careers and already being All-Star level players.

Of course, James has his history of going against the Spurs in the NBA Finals during his Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat days, but it would be worth risking making some fans angry for a shot at yet another NBA title for him.
