LeBron James has once again underlined his obsessive commitment to longevity, with a revealing decision during his recent rehab highlighting just how far he is willing to go to extend his career.
At an age when most players are long retired, James continues to adjust his lifestyle in pursuit of elite performance.
The move came during a challenging stretch earlier this season, when injuries briefly sidelined him and forced a period of reflection away from the court. Rather than easing off, James doubled down.

LeBron James cut out alcohol during ‘rehab’ process
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James made a notable lifestyle change while recovering from sciatica earlier in the season.
“There’s no telling the ride the Lakers could still go on this spring, especially if James can find that cape to put back on. While James is eight years older, he has shown a similar commitment to this season’s Lakers team.
“He missed the first 14 games because of sciatica. But James stopped drinking alcohol during his rehab, and he has slimmed down considerably,” McMenamin reported.
The decision was part of a broader physical reset, aimed at improving recovery, conditioning and durability as the season progressed. It also reinforced how meticulously James manages every detail of his body this late into his career.
How LeBron James is still delivering at 41
Despite turning 41 during the season, James has remained a central figure for the Lakers on both ends of the floor. He has continued to shoulder a heavy workload, contribute consistently as a scorer and playmaker, and act as the team’s emotional leader.
While his minutes are managed more carefully than earlier in his career, James has shown that he can still take over games in stretches, particularly in high-leverage moments. His basketball IQ, passing vision and ability to control tempo have allowed him to remain effective even as his athleticism has naturally evolved.
The choice to eliminate alcohol during rehab fits neatly into that picture. For James, marginal gains still matter, and as this season has shown, he is prepared to make personal sacrifices if it helps him stay competitive deep into his forties.
