While emotional reunions with the Cavs or Heat seemed like obvious choices, LeBron James explained that one crucial factor that made him choose the 76ers.

LeBron James signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million veteran-minimum contract completely reshapes the NBA landscape.

Taking a massive pay cut from his previous $52.6 million salary, the 41-year-old prioritized chasing a fifth championship over money, teaming up with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown.

The decision ends weeks of intense suspense that kept commissioner Adam Silver, TV networks, and schedule makers nervously on hold while James took his time.

Why LeBron chose the 76ers over the Cleveland Cavaliers

Taking to his X account, LeBron explained his decision to join the 76ers, putting it down to it being his best opportunity of winning another NBA championship.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”

But it didn’t stop there, as he also revealed one of the reasons he didn’t opt for a safe and familiar option like the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Miami Heat.

“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point? I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning.”
