Caitlin Clark couldn’t believe it when she was told that LeBron James is joining the Philadelphia 76ers during WNBA All-Star media availability.
Clark was answering questions for the media at the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game in Chicago when the news of LeBron joining the 76ers on a two-year veterans’ minimum was revealed to the world.
The Indiana Fever star seemed completely stunned at James’ decision, revealing the destinations she thought were likely, and the destination she wishes LeBron had chosen.
Caitlin Clark couldn’t believe that LeBron James is headed to the 76ers
Clark shared her unfiltered instant reaction to James’ free agency decision, revealing she thought he’d pick the Cavs or Heat, while hoping he joined the Warriors with Steph Curry.
“No way. I just pitched him for the Pacers. It didn’t get to him fast enough. The 76ers? Wow.”
“Selfishly, I wanted the Warriors because Steph and Bron would be amazing together, but they have some serious talent on the 76ers. Arguably one of the favorites in the East with the Knicks and my Pacers. I thought he was gonna go to Miami or Cleveland, so that’s pretty shocking.”
Clark admits she will have to tune into more 76ers basketball next season while making her intentions to be courtside for the 76ers’ games in Indiana clear.
The other possibilities for James are fascinating, but they’re just possibilities now that the 41-year-old has announced his decision to the world.

Interestingly, Clark was part of the Pacers’ pitch to LeBron after the NBA legend made it clear to Tyrese Haliburton that he wasn’t interested in joining Indiana.
While they won’t be divisional rivals, Clark’s Pacers will have to eventually go through the superteam in Philadelphia that just added the NBA’s all-time leading scorer to their roster.
