According to the Sun, Norwich City are now pursuing a loan deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour – and that may have implications for Tottenham and Oliver Skipp.

The Canaries are looking to bolster their squad having secured a return to the Premier League, with Angus Gunn and Milot Rashica snapped up this week.

They’re now looking for a midfielder, and seem to have an exciting target in mind, with Chelsea talent Gilmour on the radar.

Gilmour to Norwich?

The Sun report that Norwich want to take Gilmour on loan for the season and are looking to fend off five other Premier League clubs.

Boss Daniel Farke worked with Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, and the relationship – as well as Norwich’s style of play – could help win the race.

The 20-year-old needs playing time, and if that isn’t going to come at Chelsea, then a move down to Norwich could help his development – just as it did for Tottenham’s Skipp.

How does this affect Tottenham talent Skipp?

Tottenham saw Norwich as a great home for their top young midfielder, sending Oliver Skipp there for the whole of last season.

Skipp was outstanding in the Norwich side, playing a key role as Darke’s men won promotion back to the Premier League.

Teammate Alexander Tettey admitted last month that he wanted Skipp to come back for another year, and Norwich would have surely been open to that.

With Norwich targeting Gilmour, that’s a major hint that Skipp will be a Tottenham player next season, beginning to emerge into their first-team picture.

Much will depend on what Tottenham’s new manager thinks, if they ever get one, as they may decide that Skipp needs more time out on loan.

For now, it looks like Norwich know Skipp is staying at Tottenham at least for pre-season, and are focusing on Gilmour instead.
